The Unjust Justice Department

Has there ever been such a colossal, disingenuous, abject failure in American history as the U.S. Justice Department over the past decade? The Department’s senior leadership and assorted yes men have blatantly looked the other way time and again relative to the alleged Clinton crimes and abuses of power and position, the reported Obama administration’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, the Russian hoax and multi-million dollar investigation, the Ukraine whistle-blower debacle, the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Court (FISO court of 11 judges serving 7 year terms) charade, and the alleged Brennan/Clapper/Comey scandals and lies. What about the Department’s purported lack of interest in the Hillary email cartoon, the Epstein crimes and the dignitaries participating, or the 2020 Biden election farce.

Moreover, how could three presidential administrations not find a way to try, convict, and punish the 9/11 participants and their accomplices many of whom spent years in the Guantanamo Bay prison? Should we blame that failure on the executive branch or the judicial branch? To my knowledge none of the perpetrators were executed nor even tried for what should be the most heinous terrorist crime in U.S. history. Wasn’t it President Obama who felt the suspects could not get a fair trial by the U.S. military? Did they give the dead and severely wounded at the World Trade Center a fair trial? An unknown number of the prisoners were quietly released, and some purportedly returned to the battlefield against U.S. and allied forces. Even though they promised not to do so! Is it possible that we are that gullible?

Could it be that the nation’s leadership lacked the courage to try, convict, and execute the worst war criminals (yes, it was an act of war) in U.S history? Even today, what could those leaders in the justice and the executive branches see when they gaze in the mirror each morning other than shame? Maybe worse, where is our electorate’s outrage, sense of justice, force of will, and patriotism to stand up and be loudly heard on subjects such as these?

Is the accountability for these historical failures in justice at the feet of our national leadership or is it with a willy-nilly, poorly informed, and self-centered electorate? I think historian Dr. Bill Horton said it best, “In the long run every governing body mirrors its people, the reflection being wisdom and integrity or greed and stupidity.” Which are we today?
