Keeping Things at a High Pitch
As I described in Executive Courage - Sometime You Have to Walk Point, “part of being good is looking good” including the employees, facilities, grounds, and more (I often assess the leadership of a hotel by the cleanliness of the elevators). Anything less is a reflection of the leader’s willingness to accept mediocrity. Attention to detail is the enemy of mediocrity and the lair of excellence. In every failing organization I have observed, and for some reason difficult to describe, the morale of the workforce was in consonance with the attention to detail exhibited by the leader.
