The Foundation of Wisdom

Author, devout Christian, Vietnam hero, and motivational speaker of the highest order, Clebe McClary, recently presented me with a small study Bible that contained only two books - Psalms and Proverbs. The layout includes 5 chapters of Psalms followed by a chapter of Proverbs and so forth and so on. Of the 31 chapters in Proverbs, chapters 1-3 are known as the wisdom chapters. Today I was at chapter 9, verse 10, and there it was once more - the verse that needs no explanation. “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.” Why would any believer need more when the Lord is the Master and the One who contemplates and decides the consequences of our lives, our families, and even our civilization. By the same token, He delivers the blessings of happiness, achievement, and health.

In that regard, verse 10 goes on to say, “Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life.” Thus, we should say, “There is great wisdom in the acquisition of wisdom”.
