November Musings (belated)
“As leaders, sometimes we coach, sometimes we inspire, sometimes we cajole, and sometimes we are wrong.”
“I love the morning sunrise. It is a time for solitude, prayer, contemplation, and collecting one’s thoughts (sometimes on paper). It is like ‘God turning on the lights’ and saying ‘Let’s go.’”
Loyalty refuses to accept inappropriate credit, or receive recognition due others.” Dr. Mark Rutland
“I once employed a staff officer who would gladly accept credit for actions and successes that he did not create to the extent that he would allow others naïve to the rank and position structure of a military academy to believe that he was the head of the academy when, of course, he was not. Unfortunately, despite being a very talented officer, he might have become the head of the academy if it were not for his ego and hunger for recognition.”
“An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness.” Elbert Hubbard
“In the workplace, patience was never my friend and will not be for turnaround leaders.”
The following are priceless anecdotes from one or more of Pastor Mark Rutland’s books.
“Until we can cultivate statesmen who are willing to be turned out of office for taking a stand for moral issues (in lieu of the whims of the constituencies), our national character will continue to erode.”
“Because authority is not diligent to punish, lack of diligence is learned. A generation with no fear of authority became less diligent. Diligence is exactitude - in other words, do it now, do it exactly as instructed and do it until it is finished.”
In his fine Christian book, “Right People - Right Place - Right Plan, Pastor Jentzen Franklin uses the analogy of David and Golaith to tell us ‘We will all have our Golaith's’ whether they be illness/health issues, death in the family, a financial Golaith, a career Golaith, an accident Golaith or a child Golaith (e.g., drugs). When Golaith comes, Pastor Franklin warns that we do not want to be on the wrong side of God. Thus, we must be ready to fight Golaith through prayer, seeking God’s wisdom, and listening to the Holy Spirit.”
