August Musings (Revisited)

I discovered some notes and quotes that I overlooked and should have been published earlier:

  • “A leader has three faithful friends - a loyal executive secretary, voicemail, and cash flow.” Dr. Bill Horton

  • “The principle of now is tactics, fueled by expediency, that rules the battlefield, military, and economic success.” Dr. Horton

  • Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.” Proverbs 23:10

  • “For his unfailing love towards those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.” Proverbs 20:11

  • “The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.” Proverbs 20:11

  • “For the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.” Proverbs 20:17

(Comment: I find it remarkable these days the number of people who have no fear of the one Being who controls the consequences of this life and the hereafter.)

  • What a leader tolerates, he will get, and more. Soon it will become out of control. Benson

  • “Pain is God’s megaphone.” C.S. Lewis

  • “Nothing will get done if you wait until you are ready.” Pastor Darrell Bush

  • Unwavering, force of will, and inordinate resolve are good adjectives for turnaround leaders. Benson

  • “That which does not kill me makes my stronger.” Nietzsche

  • Managing by tenacity - bold decisions followed by supervised implementation. Benson

  • “Country music - 3 chords and the truth.” Anonymous

  • On travel: Mary cares little about travel these days but is lenient about my coming and going. It matters little where I go as long as I am not having fun. Benson

  • “Books give us some place to go when we have to stay where we are.” Mason Cooley

  • One whose sole ambition is to lead or command (without the right kit bag) is like the lemming (Arctic rodent) that continues to migrate to the sea and drowns. Benson

  • “The consummate leader fixes things that are broken, changes things that are bad, and corrects things that are wrong - without ever being told to do so.” Benson
