Flex Leadership
Fear of failure is a characteristic of senior leaders who cover their six with rigid policies, mandatory procedures, and threats of consequences. Rigid policies, procedures, and tactics can stifle visionary subordinate leaders, create bureaucratic boredom, suffocate initiative, and facilitate the exit of the best young leaders and staff. The best leaders seek some license to flex, experiment, modify procedures, and ignore standard operating procedures when they do not fit the variables of the situation.
