Executive courage and walking point
People have quit asking me when my new book is coming out. Frankly, I have quit asking my publisher (Next Century Publishing), because the dates I receive I never come to fruition. Admittedly, the last 80 day delay was mostly my fault as I took a position In Indiana heading a once fine military academy that had fallen in hard times and simply could not get my endorsements and pictures together. Nonetheless, I think we are close.
From Section 1 titled Executive Courage, I offer the following quote, which explains how those with executive courage make tough decisions with insufficient information similar to the point man in a combat patrol. "Walking point requires a toughness of soul, the ability to put one's feelings aside, and the force of personality to sneer at one's fears, notwithstanding the ensuing criticism and ill will you are about to experience. Just like in Vietnam where I continually admonished the Marines to 'walk where you don't want to walk', my counsel to executives is 'do what you don't want to do, and do not procrastinate in making it so'."
