I decided to retire as the president of Riverside Military Academy in 2016 due to a series of health issues probably related to 50+ years of job-related stress. Another reason related to a Riverside parent who kept emailing me about the cadets’ food, healthcare, and various teachers. The icing on the cake was that she began each email with “Colonial Benson.” I never did know if that was a subtle hint that I was too old for the position, or she just didn’t know how to spell Colonel.
