A Critical Life's Lesson

If one judges and impression while the soul is agitated, one’s judgment is unreliable because of a form of vertigo (a distorted state of mind). It is like when water is disturbed, the ray of light is distorted (paraphrased from Admiral James Stockdale’s explanation of the Stoics view of the importance of tranquility when making important decisions). I am well aware that my perception of reality is distorted when I am agitated. My worst decisions are made when I rush to judgment and when I am angry or perplexed. This may seem contrary to my previous piece on vacillating leaders, but this point addresses decision-making when the mind is not ready to decide.
